During the final match of the recently concluded season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in Surat, Tamil Nadu all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin put on display an innovative method of running between the wickets during a crunch situation in the match.
It all happened before the final delivery of the match when Tamil Nadu needed three runs to win off the last ball of the riveting final. Ashwin, who was at the non-striker’s end, decided to remove his pads in a bid to increase the acceleration process.

While he removed his pads, he was seen wearing a helmet which he had removed while facing Karnataka spinner Krishnappa Gowtham in the last over. Known for his smart tactics, Ashwin standing at the non-striker’s end without his batting pads was perhaps a first-time ever sight for plentiful fans who were watching the match.
Despite Ashwin’s innovative ploy, Tamil Nadu ended up losing the match by a run as spinner Murugan Ashwin couldn’t make contact with the ball on the delivery which mattered the most.
Having won the last season of the tournament in March, Karnataka have become the first team to lift the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on consecutive occasions and twice in a year.
