Wayne Rooney’s phenomenal club career extended when he joined the USA outfit DC United during the kick start of 2018. Wasting no time in a new environment, English International has scored 12 goals from 21 games and has lifted the MVP award of DC United for his contribution to the club over the last year.

In addition to his remarkable goalscoring form, his ability to find out the teammates has made him an integral part of the side. He has 7 assists to his name despite starting upfront for his side.

The Washington Based outfit were inspired upon Rooney’s arrival. They were bottom of the Eastern Conference league when the former Manchester United star joined them last year, but he helped them steer into the playoffs which is considered as a phenomenal achievement. So, he aims even more successful campaign this time around, having already won three out of four possible games early on in the season.

The 33-year-old opened his account with a hat-trick against Real Salt Lake last time and he has added another one to his tally by scoring a free-kick on Sunday. He captained his side to a 2-1 victory against Orlando City, thanks to a breathtaking free-kick which seemed to have split the scoreline.

Wayne Rooney himself won the free-kick near the corner flag as the referee brought it back for a foul on him. The striker scored from an improbable angle to find the far corner and beat the goalkeeper dramatically.

It was unreal finesse from Rooney.

DC United scored two goals from two free kicks in the first half. The Everton graduate also produced an assist through his free-kick as Steve Birnbaum diverted the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring earlier in the game.

D.C. United have made their best start in 13 years and are unbeaten in 14 regular season matches.

“Days like this come around, and there is a winning spirit about the group,” manager Olsen said at full-time, per the Washington Post.

“We have guys who can make plays. Hopefully we can grow from it, take some lessons. Lessons are easier with three points.”

Wayne Rooney is continuously finding his feet at the United States and Ben Olsen will be hopeful about their side’s unbeaten run. Albeit the dramatic start, DC United manager and Skipper will be wary to secure qualification to the playoffs and try to stamp their authority in the biggest stage of the Major League Soccer.

Wayne Rooney’s DC United will face Los Angeles FC in the forthcoming week as they prepare to keep their top spot intact.
