Real Madrid had a disastrous campaign last season and will be hoping that he will be instrumental in helping the club turn their fortunes around. Why was Eden Hazard wearing the no.50 shirt on his Real Madrid debut?
The reason for the choice was just as unorthodox. Real Madrid’s newest Galactico apparently wore the no.50 shirt to pay homage to the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. Perhaps the Belgian is hoping that his move to the Spanish Capital ends up being just as significant and impactful.
Will Hazard wear the no.50 in the La Liga?
He will however, not be allowed to wear the no.50 on his jersey once the La Liga starts. The La Liga Santander only permits the use of numbers from 1 to 25. New signings Ferland Mendy and Luka Jovic appear to have taken no.23 and no.18 respectively. This means that the only numbers available to Hazard are 13 and 16 at the moment.

The former Chelsea star originally wanted the number 10 shirt. However, he couldn’t convince the current wearer, Luka Modric, to part ways with the number. Real Madrid wanted to bestow him with the legendary no.7 shirt but Mariano Diaz, in whose possession the shirt lays at the moment, refused to entertain the thought. Eden hazard though, may find himself with a plethora of choices in the coming weeks as Real Madrid are expected to embark on a selling spree.
