Dinesh Karthik was spotted doing keeping drills at the Village in Dublin which gave birth to rumours that whether DK would replace Dhoni in the 2nd India-Ireland T20I.

In the last T20I, the selections left everybody stunned as both KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik were not a part of the playing XI. Instead, Manish Pandey who was not even included in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team towards the fag end of the IPL was given a chance ahead of them.

In the first T20I, once MS Dhoni came out to bat, he had to swing at every ball. He hit a boundary towards backward square against Rankin on a short of length ball in the same over.

Dhoni backed it up with a huge six. It was overpitched delivery on the off stump which was met by Dhoni’s typical swing of the bat as the ball sailed over the side screen. Unfortunately, on the second ball of the last over Dhoni was caught at mid wicket.

Remember the last time Dinesh Karthik played in a T20I for India, it was the Nidahas trophy final and he finished the game with a match-winning six. Karthik has been stellar in the IPL as well.

However, what gives substance to the rumours that DK may replace MSD is Virat Kohli’s statement in the post-match presentation. Day before yesterday, Kohli had said, “Look, we’ve already announced we will experiment with the middle order a lot. Even in the next few T20 games, even in England, we will look to throw in guys and surprise the opposition.”

In the next games, we will play the guys who din’t play today. We’re going to give everyone a go in this series. The management and me as captain decided it. There’re no mysteries and looking everyone to give game time,”
