Wolff defends Vettel after Monza crash

Toto Wolff has come out and defended Vettel for the Hamilton crash in Monza, one that largely knocked Vettel out of contention of a race win in Ferrari’s backyard.

Having qualified 1-2, a lot was expected out of Ferrari on race day. However, all hopes of finishing the race with two men on the podium vanished when Vettel and Hamilton touched on lap 1, making the German spin and forcing him to restart from the back of the pack.

Hamilton played his cards right, made some bold moves and ultimately came out on top in Ferrari territory. Ever since the incident, Vettel has been receiving a lot of flak for his driving, as fans feel that maybe Vettel is making too many mistakes in the Ferrari and that he might lose out on the WDC to Hamilton, despite Ferrari having a superior package.

With the Leclerc to Ferrari deal almost done, a few Ferrari fans have also called for Vettel to be removed, as he has been making far too many mistakes, despite being in brilliant positions.

Toto Wolff however, feels that the criticism for Vettel is uncalled for as such incidents happen on a race track.

“He has the ambition to always win, if possible, and brings with it the necessary aggressiveness. That takes a lot of courage. That it sometimes leads to collisions is part of his way of driving a F1 car. And with that he became a 4-time world champion and you have to recognize that, even if you work with Lewis Hamilton like me.” Wolff said.

Do you think Vettel has been receiving a lot of criticism for nothing? Or is he really not as good or as calm as Hamilton during crunch situations.
