Sting would eventually make a shocking comeback with his appearance at AEW’s Winter is Coming special. Once the surprise wore off however, many questioned what his role in the company was going to be. The Icon has now finally opened up on the subject.

Sting gives an insight on his future with AEW

Speaking on this week’s AEW Unrestricted Podcast, Sting revealed that he joined AEW because he wanted a better ending to his career and there was no hesitance on his part once Tony Khan’s phone rang.

I didn’t want to disappear with my tail between my legs,” Sting confessed. “Here recently, I didn’t want to just end the way it ended. I was pushing to get a cinema-style match with Taker, and for probably a litany of different reasons it just wasn’t going to happen.

So when Tony [Khan] called and spoke with me he said, ‘Are you interested in doing cinema-style matches?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I am. I am.’

He then explained that he has no desire to go on top, he only wants to go out in a positive light and mentor the younger wrestlers and be of any help while he still can.

“I’d thought I’d like to come back and do that and not disappear again with the tail in between my legs,” he continued. “I’d love to be able to go out – I don’t have to go out on top – I’m just saying to go out in a positive light.

“And then as far as giving, I would like to mentor some of these guys. And be of any kind of help that I possibly can. Even though [wrestling has] changed, I still get it.”

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
