Kevin Owens says Goldberg isn’t in the WWE to have quality matches

Kevin Owens says Goldberg isn’t in the WWE to have quality matches. He also added that he wasn’t interested in Goldberg’s in ring style.

Goldberg shocked the world when he squashed Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series back in 2016. He had caught the imagination of the WWE audience with that one sided domination. However, fans began to sense a pattern when he did the same against Kevin Owens to win the Universal Championship.

It soon became evident that Goldberg’s matches weren’t going to be the Iron Man classic types. It would only last for a few explosive minutes. There are people who enjoy these kind of matches and others who don’t. Owens expressed his openness at working with Goldberg again. He however, admitted that he wasn’t a fan of what Goldberg brought to the ring.

‘I’d love to work with him again if he was here to work. I’m not saying this is his fault, but he’s not – his career has never been about long matches or anything like that,” Owens told Metro UK. ‘To me, I don’t see much positive out of wrestling him for two minutes, or 20 seconds or 30 seconds or whatever, you know what I mean?

I’d love to work with him again if we got to do some cool stuff, and some cool promos, exchange back and forth, and then have a quality match, that’d be great. But that’s just not usually what he’s here for.”

Owens admitted that Goldberg’s style was popular and hence successful. However, it wasn’t what engaged him as a fan or a performer.

‘Look, it works,’ he acknowledged. ‘I’m not saying anything against that, it’s just not what I’m interested in. As a fan, I’ve never been interested in that stuff.

‘Even when he was in WCW, I didn’t really like it. That’s just not what I look for in my wrestling.’ .

Kevin Owens is scheduled to face Roman Reigns at TLC for the Universal Championship. The two have had multiple matches before with Owens as the champion and Reigns looking to dethrone him. This time the dynamics are different.

WWE TLC will take place on Sunday, December 20.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
