The Miz recalls conversation with Vince McMahon after a botched promo on his WWE debut

The Miz recalls conversation with Vince McMahon after a botched promo on his WWE debut. The A-lister fumbled his way out of the segment.

You can give the Miz a mic and expect him to fill time while entertaining the audience. His charisma and presence is so effortlessly smooth today that it is hard to believe that his very first shot at talking to the WWE was an extremely painful disaster.

Debuting as the host of the Diva Search talent competition back in 2006, the A-lister made an utter mess of his promo. The Miz revealed on the latest episode of WWE 24 that he was convinced Vince McMahon was going to fire him. Instead, the WWE Chairman offered him tips on how to do his job better.

“I remember going backstage thinking, ‘I’m going to get fired’. And I walk back. I went over to Vince, I go, ‘I’m so sorry, I apologize, this will never happen again. I will make sure it will not happen again’. He goes, ‘I know it won’t happen again.’

“He took me aside and he said, ‘Bullet points, kid. You need to learn bullet points, and I know you will do better next time because you will have to do it next Friday’. So it was like, ‘Oh, I’m not fired.’”

The Miz must have taken Vince’s advice to heart because in the years since, he has grown to become one of the most reliable talker’s in the industry. The A-Lister is a two time WWE Champion and a Grand Slam Champion under both the old and new format.

All in all, it’s fair to say that he’s come quite a way from his horrendous debut; serving a reminder that first impressions aren’t always the last impressions.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
