Undisputed Era come out on top against Team McAfee in a chaotic affair at NXT TakeOver WarGames

Undisputed Era come out on top against Team McAfee in a chaotic affair at NXT TakeOver: WarGames following a violent ending.

Truth be told there should only be one WarGames per year. This is not to say that this year’s main event was not good. Far from it, it was one of the best matches in terms of storytelling and in ring action this year. However, several moments in the match would have had much more impact if we hadn’t just gone through another grueling WarGames match a couple of hours ago.

With the nitpicking out of the way, can we take a second to talk about Pat McAfee and what a jewel NXT has found in him. Just his second ever professional wrestling match and the former NFL Punter wrestled like he’d been doing this for years.

Kyle O’Reilly is another man who did literally nothing wrong the entire match. He had one job, look like a star, and by the end of the match. he shined brighter than a clean crockery set you see in an advertisement for a dishwasher.

Everybody predicted a war and that’s exactly what they got alongside a large helping of mayhem. To see them go like their lives depended on it, to see them take the bumps they did, very few matches make you cringe and wince, this was one of them.

The match was designed to showcase McAfee and he did exactly that, provoking Wade Barrett on commentary to say: “He combines the athleticism of Seth Rollins with the hatability (sic) of The Miz.”

The match ended with O’ Reilly, delivering his knee into a steel chair on the face of Oney Lorcan. This was the perfect ending for UE’s rising singles star. He came second in a stellar contest against NXT Champion Finn Balor at the last TakeOver and was cheated out of his match to determine who gets the advantage at WarGames.

O’Reilly started the match for his side and after 45 grueling minutes, brought it to an end. He finally got a win to his name and what a win this was.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
