For WWE, this year has been a year of comebacks as several superstars have made their way back to the company. And not just the active superstars, a few veterans have also returned to the squared circle. While Steve Austin wrestled a match at this year’s WrestleMania, Ric Flair also entered the ring for the last time earlier this year. Now, WWE legend Shawn Michaels has also discussed the possibility of coming out of retirement for one more match.
Recently, a report came out that said Kevin Owens had pitched a match against The Heartbreak Kid. However, despite liking the idea, Shawn Michaels refused to do the match.
In his recent appearance on Culture State, the Hall of Famer came across the same question once again. And one more time, he was asked about wrestling one more match in WWE.
Shawn Michaels feels he ‘had that final match’ and won’t come out of retirement
Recently, Culture State interviewed Shawn Michaels where the Hall of Famer discussed NXT Vengeance Day. The pay-per-view is scheduled to take place in Charlotte, NC, next year in February.
During the show, the hosts brought up the famous question and asked the legend himself for his thoughts. Shawn Michaels was questioned whether he would like to come out of retirement and wrestle one more match.
For those who were expecting to hear a “Yes”, HBK’s answer might disappoint you. Shawn Michaels claimed he has had his final match and therefore, won’t be coming out of retirement. In fact, the Hall of Famer claimed to be happy with the way his career ended. Noting that father time waits for no man, Michaels feels it’s time to watch the next generation grow.
“I’ve had that final match. No, father time waits on no man. I’m good, I’m unbelievably happy with my career, and it is now time to watch the next generation flourish,” Michaels stated.
With legends like Steve Austin making their comeback, it’s disappointing to hear Michaels won’t be doing the same. However, considering how he ended his career, a no seems to be the right answer.
The Heartbreak Kid’s last WWE match is considered one of the best matches in history
Unlike many, the retirement match of Shawn Michaels is one of the most memorable matches in WWE history. At WrestleMania 25, HBK faced The Undertaker in a career versus streak match. In an emotional bout, The Heartbreak Kid gave his best but failed to break The Phenom’s streak. Though it surely was a match worthy of announcing retirement.
Nevertheless, Shawn Michaels did come out of retirement to wrestle a match at Crown Jewel 2018. However, the match did not live up to the expectations of the fans. And considering what he said to Culture State, it seems Michaels won’t be returning for one more match.
