Youtube compilation video of Virgil Van Dijk and Nemanja Vidic stirs up a comparison between the two defenders of different eras.
The comparisons between Nemanja Vidic and Virgil Van Dijk have started to emerge ever since Van Dijk raised to an astronomical success, especially after finishing sharing podium with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for FIFPro and Ballon d’Or.
Since then the fanbases of both players have been constantly in an argument about who is better between the two. With Vidic being all-time great in the Premier League was a crucial player in Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.
On the other side, Van Dijk has been an influential figure in the rise of Liverpool’s return to glory. Now the players belonging to different times, there will be a never-ending debate.
However, a video has emerged on YouTube made by a user named Teo CRi, compiling from highlights that Vidic was on another level to Van Dijk.
Even though Van Dijk is miles ahead of the other defenders in the Premier League and has been at the top in his category since a while, he is still behind in statistical and silverware success.
Many fans would agree that Van Dijk’s best statistical season was the 2018/19 Season when Liverpool finished behind Manchester City in the Premier League and won the UEFA Champions League.
But if you compare his stats to Vidic from 2008/09 when Manchester United won the Premier League and narrowly lost to Barcelona in the Champions League Final, there’s simply no debate.
The stats could be deceiving but Van Dijk is still has a lot to achieve before being considered better than Vidic. Liverpool was about to win the Premier League, which could have raised Van Dijk’s contention in this debate.
