Havertz’s assist turned out to be a match winner on Sunday with the Gnabry strike being the only goal of a 1-0 win for Germany against Romania. And it was a layup willing of winning the contest for his country with Havertz catching Gnabry right infront of the goal.

Havertz Impresses With Crucial Assist

Havertz not only carried the ball forward and traversed his way past Romania’s defence but also ensured he sent the ball right across to Gnabry’s feet. The sweeping pass caught Gnabry plum infront of the empty goal as the Bayern Munich man tapped in an easy goal.

The win sees Germany with two wins out of two in their ongoing FIFA 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Germany coach Joachim Low spoke about the result and how his side was made to toughen it out for the win.

“We worked hard for the ball and had some good moves, but we have to criticise the way we used our chances,” he said. “We could have made it a lot easier by scoring the second goal.

“Maybe we did not play enough balls behind their defence. We also could have had more runs behind, and that’s something we can improve on.”

Gnabry added: “We were through one on one versus the goalkeeper three, four times, but failed to convert.

“The most important thing for us is the three points. We had so many counter-attacks in the second half, but failed to make it 2-0 and made things difficult for ourselves.”
