Barcelona willing to let go Jasper Cillessen

Jasper Cillessen has endured a painful few seasons at Barcelona, warming the benches for most parts and not being able to come up with extra ordinary performances whenever given an opportunity.

Yes, he is solid, yes he commits very few errors but for Barcelona, he is not Ter Stegen material.

Ter Stegen has admirably held together that Barcelona defence and has been largely error-free for the Catalan side.

Thus, Cillessen has no real hope of breaking into that Barcelona XI, especially in the elite competitions(he has been Barca’s keeper in Copa del Rey).

Cillessen has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Barcelona, as he won’t be content with staying on as Ter Stegen’s deputy.

He wants more playing time and thus is ready to give up the luxuries of being a Barcelona player and move away from the club.

Liverpool appear to be front-runners to secure the services of the former Ajax goalkeeper.

After Karius’ shambolic performance in the Champions League Final, Liverpool have been on the lookout for a more trustworthy keeper and Cillessen is as trustworthy as they come.

The Netherlands International has a release clause of €60million and Jurgen Klopp could go ahead and trigger that release clause to get the 29 year old to Anfield.

Barcelona had earlier made it clear that they did not want to sell the goalkeeper, but reports in Marca suggest that Barcelona wont’ have much of a say if Liverpool decide to shell out the reported release clause of  €60million.

Will Jasper Cillessen be a good addition to that Liverpool squad?
