3 positions that Man Utd desperately need reinforcements in for next season

3 positions that Man Utd desperately need reinforcements in during the transfer window for their Premier League campaign next season.

Manchester United’s transfer policies have been more miss than hit since Sir Alex Ferguson left the helm at Old Trafford. However, their last few signings have done very well for the club with all Bruno Fernandes being the pick of the lot.

The recent purchases suggest that United have finally begun to understood how to make their money count in the transfer market. The club will aim to do similarly as they look to fill important positions in the squad that still need strengthening. Today we will look at the 3 positions that Man Utd desperately need reinforcements in for the next season.

3) Centre-back

The purchase of Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka went a long way in fixing United’s backline that leaked several goals in the seasons prior. The Red Devils have their full backs adequately covered with Diogo Dalot and Brandon Williams deputising for Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw. However, they do not boast the same luxury with their centre-backs.

In Eric Baily, they have one of the talented centre-backs in the world. However, he is very injury prone. That leaves the side with Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Axel Tuanzebe, all of whom are either not good enough or not experienced enough.

United will look to get in a central defender who is good enough to challenge their current pair of Victor Lindelof and Maguire and deputise when either fail to make it to the 11. Some of the names they have been linked with are Samuel Umtiti, Kalidou Koulibaly and Diego Godin. However, neither of the names are in line with Solskjaer’s vision of building a squad around young English players.

2) Right wing

Manchester United have tried to fill this position with several players. However, none of excelled in the position so far. Daniel James is currently operating in the position. He has done fairly decently but United will want an improvement in the position before the start of the next season.

The Welshman is a battler on the field and has a tendency to take on any opponent. However, all that heart does not make up for his lack of quality. Unless he drastically improves, James is not United’s answer to their right wing.

For the right price though, United could possibly bring in Jadon Sancho, who has already proven to be an elite playmaker. The young Englishman is a generational talent who also happens to be a natural right winger. This would allow United to use James as a super sub who comes in the 2nd half and tears his opponents with blistering pace.

1) Striker

This is a delicate position. While some would argue that United need better midfield options than they already have and that buying a striker could potentially hurt Mason Greenwood’s development, if United are to become a top side once again, they will need to bring in some one who can find the back of the net more often than not.

Both Martial and Rashford have done well at the top for the club this season. However, neither of them is the kind of strikers that Ole Solskjaer spoke of in January. A striker capable of being in the right position at the right time against tough opponents and capable of breaking down sides that like to sit back will add an edge to a side that is slowly improving.

Erling Haaland could be described as one such figure. Despite the Norwegian turnig United down in January, his name is still linked with the club. The other name that has been doing the rounds is Timo Werner. However, it is likelier that Werner will end up at Liverpool instead.
