5 players Manchester United could sign before the Transfer Window closes

5 players Manchester United could sign before the Transfer Window closes.

Manchester United have just signed Harry Maguire from Leicester City for a world record £85million. While United’s rivals will clown the Reds for the amount spent, United fans will sigh in relief for United have finally addressed an issue of concern. For once, United can boast of having a solid back four. Unfortunately, there are still problematic areas that need to be invested in. With the transfer window nearing its end, it is imperative that United act swiftly.

The departures of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini has left the club short in the middle of the park. They have bought Daniel James from Swansea City and while the youngster is definitely one for the future, he is not the answer United are seeking at the moment. United need an impact signing in the middle and they need it urgently. The Reds are also in pursuit of a winger. With Lukaku’s departure, they will also need a back up for Marcus Rashford, who will be Ola Gunnar Solksjaer’s number one Striker this season. With all of this in mind, here are 5 players Manchester United could sign before the transfer window closes

Bruno Fernandes

Let’s get the most obvious one out of the list early on. Bruno Fernandes has been on Manchester United’s for a long time and with good reason too. The Portuguese scored 31 goals last season, becoming the highest-scoring Portuguese midfielder in a single season of all time. United will hope that he will perform just as ably for them when he does sign. However, the inflated price that Sporting have slapped on him has put United off. The Reds will have to gauze how badly they need him and come to a decision quickly as the transfer season reaches its end. Fernandes’ free flowing style of play is something that United could hugely benefit from though.

Paulo Dybala

The Juventus star is one of the best forwards on the planet will add immensely to the team. The 25-year old was reportedly headed towards United after both the clubs agreed a swap-deal which would see Lukaku go in the opposite direction. However, reports have now emerged that the Argentine has no interest in swapping his black and white for United’s red. However, if Ola Gunnar Solskjaer can somehow convince him to ply his trade at Old Trafford, he and Rashford could form a potent combination at the top. Perhaps a promise of being a star at the Theatre of Dreams and not being under a certain Portuguese’s shadows may lure the young forward.

Christian Eriksen

The Danish midfielder has already made his desire to leave Tottenham public. With just one year left on his contract, Spurs run the risk of watching the attacking midfielder leave on a free. Manchester United can take advantage of the situation. They can put in a bid for him knowing that the club is desperate to get something out of him. If United fail to capture Bruno Fernandes at a price that pleases them, it is likely that United will turn their attention towards Eriksen. Eriksen originally wanted to join Real Madrid, but with Real not showing any interest towards him, it is possible that United could lure him to Old Trafford.

Gareth Bale/ Philippe Coutinho

Both of these players have made the list because of the similar circumstances they find themselves under. Bale and Coutinho both made their way to Real Madrid and Barcelona from the premier league as their most expensive signings. However, they both find themselves as surplus to requirements at the moment and their clubs are working on their respective transfers. It is no surprise that Manchester United have been linked with the two. This wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for United though. Both of these players are proven world class performers and can also play in the wings; a position United are in dire need to fill. The prospect of this remains highly unlikely though.

Jadon Sancho

Continuing on the topic of highly unlikely, let’s talk about Borrusia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. The former Manchester City youngster had a breakout season in Germany last season scoring nine goals and providing a staggering 17 assists for the Bundesliga giants. As a result, the German side are desperate to hold on to him.

United have tried to prise him out of Dortmund’s grips. However, the club remain adamant that he is not for sale. With United struggling on the right wing, perhaps United could go for one last push and hope to eek a number out of Dortmund and hope that they can meet it. As unlikely as it is, if they manage to bring in the teenager, United will definitely have its best transfer season in years.
