Carlos Brathwaite dives unnecessarily vs NZ: West Indies all-rounder’s fielding effort became a source of laughter for viewers.

During the 29th match of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between West Indies and New Zealand at Old Trafford, West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite put on display a hilarious fielding effort which left everyone in splits.

It happened on the second delivery of the match when New Zealand captain Kane Williamson played a cover drive off a Sheldon Cottrell full-toss. Among Brathwaite and Evin Lewis, the former took the initiative of diving near the boundary to stop the ball.

That being said, Brathwaite’s dive saw him missing the ball altogether. Thus, registering a humourous fielding effort. While Lewis did try to make amends, he remained unsuccessful in stopping the ball.

After West Indies captain Jason Holder won the toss and chose to field, Cottrell made early inroads into New Zealand’s batting lineup. The left-arm fast bowler dismissed both New Zealand opening batsmen in Martin Guptill and Colin Munro on the first ball that they faced.

After being reduced to 7/2 in the first over, New Zealand have now revived on the back of an impressive partnership between captain Kane Williamson and veteran batsman Ross Taylor. Having completed individual half-centuries, the pair has stitched a 100-run stand for the third wicket.

While New Zealand fielded an unchanged playing XI, West Indies made a couple of changes to their XI. Brathwaite and off-spinner Ashley Nurse were included in place of all-rounder Andre Russell and fast bowler Shannon Gabriel.
