Glenn Maxwell injury update: Australian all-rounder suffers an injury scare after Mitchell Starc hits him with a horrendous delivery
The round-robin format of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, has made sure that the teams should not only outplay their opponents day in and out in the league matches, but also challenge themselves to stay injury free despite putting in all the blood, sweat and toil.
Thus, the World Cup so far has seen string of injuries from players of almost all the ten teams , with constant replacements taking place in the 15-member squad. It is now the Australian Team which has been handed a heavy blow with its two key players being injured with the business end of the tournament approaching. In fact one player has been ruled out of the squad.
Australian southpaw Shaun Marsh has been ruled out of the squad due to an injury during the practice session ahead of the Australia vs South Africa clash on Saturday at Manchester. On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell has also been handed a severe blow on his forearm courtesy a vicious delivery bowled by the Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc.
Glenn Maxwell injury update
Maxwell fell victim to a snorter of a delivery bowled by the leading wicket-taker of the tournament so far- Mitchell Starc during the team’s practice session on Thursday.
As per the reports, the flamboyant all-rounder was in agonising pain for about thirty seconds after being hit by the left-arm pacer on his right forearm. The scans however, cleared him of any serious injury.
As far as his availability for the match against South Africa is concerned, the call on the same would be taken after he is monitored and scanned.
“The scans have cleared Glenn of any serious damage and we’ll continue to monitor him over the coming days,” Langer said. “We are hopeful he will be fit to perform for us on Saturday against South Africa.”
Shaun Marsh OUT with a broken arm. Peter Handscomb being flown in. Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith also nursing injuries.
