While rain played spoilsport in several matches initially, climate was seen improving drastically as the tournament progressed into its second half.
Before the start of the World Cup, there were plentiful talks of this World Cup being the batsmen’s World Cup. Frequent discussions of record-breaking innings score were heard everywhere. There were also speculations that batsmen would cross the 500-run mark in the tournament.
Having said that, nothing of that sort happened. The showpiece event will go down as a balanced tournament especially when it comes to one department dominating the other. A prime example of bowlers dominating the tournament can be judged from the fact that Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc’s record-breaking numbers.
Having picked 27 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 18.59, an economy rate of 5.43 and a strike rate of 20.5, Starc is the highest-wicket taker in the tournament. When Starc dismissed England opening batsman Jonny Bairstow in the second semi-final, he became the bowler to pick 27 wickets in a World Cup.
