Chelsea level scores with Liverpool through Jorginho’s overtime penalty in the UEFA Super Cup showdown at Istanbul tonight.

In just a little under 2 hours, Chelsea and Liverpool have racked up 4 goals in a match that is turning out to be worthy of a UEFA showpiece event. This match has been played out like a game of chess. Slightly slow but intelligent play in the middle before both teams have launched an aggressive check in front of the goal.

Chelsea took the lead in the 36^th minute through Olivier Giroud and walked off the field 1-0 at half-time. Jurgen Klopp introduced Roberto Firmino in the second have and reaped immediate reward as Firmino combine with Sadio Mane to equalise the match in the 48^th minute.

By full time, both teams remained unseparated. The game was then taken to an extra 30 minute played over two halves of 15 minutes each. Mane and Firmino once again paired to set up Liverpool’s second goal. Chelsea seemed to be all but out of the contest. However, a foul by Liverpool Goal Keeper bought them back into the game.

After checking with the VAR, Chelsea were handed a penalty. Jorginho took the spot kick and placed the ball behind the net to level the score with Liverpool. In doing so, he has become the first Italian to score in the UEFA Super Cup match since Filippo Inzaghi in 2007.

By the end of 120 minutes, the match ended with the scores tied at 2-2. The game will now go to Penalty shoot-outs. The winner will be decided by whoever manages to find the back of the net more times in their allotted 5 kicks.
