Has Chris Gayle retired from international cricket: The Universe Boss’ retirement has become the hot topic among the cricketing fraternity.

When India captain Virat Kohli hugged veteran West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle after he was dismissed in the third ODI of the ongoing India’s tour of West Indies, those were clear indications of the 39-year old cricketer leaving the ground in national uniform for the last time.

Other than Kohli, almost all members of the Indian team congratulated Gayle on his outstanding career. On his return to the pavilion, Gayle received a standing applause from the fans and both the dressing rooms. In addition to this, him walking with his helmet atop his bat were more indications of him likely to hang his boots after the match.

Having said that, the same seems unlikely now as Gayle appears to have taken a U-turn with respect to his international retirement. In a video uploaded on the official Twitter handle of West Indies cricket, Gayle talked about not announcing his retirement.

“I didn’t announce any retirement. Yeah [still with West Indies], until further notice,” Gayle was quoted as saying in the 10-second video.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Kohli was vocal about Gayle. While he congratulated the southpaw for a “great career”, the Indian skipper also highlighted his nicest quality.

“Chris [Gayle], I would like to congratulate him for a great, great career playing for West Indies. He has done so much for West Indies cricket, and he is an icon all over the world.

“One of the nicest human beings around. That to me is his nicest quality. Everyone knows about his cricket, but I think the kind of person he is – so helpful with youngsters and so fun loving and always smiling, even in the most [high] pressure situations he is always smiling. For me Chris Gayle the person is the best part of him,” Kohli was quoted as saying.
