WATCH: Taniya Bhatia affects MS Dhoni-like stumping to dismiss Trisha Chetty vs South Africa Women
Taniya Bhatia affects MS Dhoni-like stumping: The Indian women’s wicket-keeper’s stumping reminded the fans of the legendary cricketer.
During the first ODI of the ongoing South Africa Women’s tour of India in Vadodara, India wicket-keeper Taniya Bhatia affected a lightening-fast stumping to dismiss South Africa batswoman Trisha Chetty. Given the nature of the dismissal, it reminded fans of veteran India wicket-keeper batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
It all happened on the third delivery of the eight over when Shetty’s attempt of playing a slog sweep off India spinner Ekta Bisht saw her walking back to the pavilion.
Having lost her balance while playing the shot, Chetty gave Bhatia a brief chance of dislodging the bails with her foot outside the crease. With the latter achieving the same in time, India were successful in dismissing the second opposition batswoman.
Coming in to bat at No. 3 in the first over itself, Chetty ended up scoring 14 (17) with the help of two fours. After South Africa captain Sune Luus won the toss and chose to bat, the visitors were bundled out for 164 in 45.1 overs.
Marizanne Kapp, who came in to bat at No. 6 in the 22nd over, top-scored for South Africa with six fours. With bowling figures of 7.1-0-33-3, veteran India pacer Jhulan Goswami was the pick of the Indian bowlers. Apart from her, Bisht, Poonam Yadav and Shikha Pandey picked up a couple of wickets each.

How Twitter reacted on the match:
A dream ball for a left-arm spinner, beaten by turn and easy stumping for Taniya Bhatia. Brilliant from Bisht.

Taniya Bhatia’s been wonderful behind the stumps today. That stumping of Trisha Chetty was exceptional – a wicket that should certainly belong to her! She’s got such good hands.#INDvSA
