Nigel Llong stuns Ravindra Jadeja: The umpire ended up surprising one and all with his delayed decision to dismiss South African all-rounder.

During the third day of the second Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of India in Pune, umpire Nigel Llong one and all with his delayed decision to dismiss South African all-rounder Senuran Muthusamy.

It all happened on the second delivery of the 45th over after Muthusamy’s attempt of leaving a conventional Jadeja delivery saw him walking back to the pavilion. In what was a delivery coming into the batsman, Muthusamy offered no shot and was stuck on the pads.

In what seemed to be a formality, the Indian fielders started to appeal. Just as the fielders stopped appealing, Llong raised his finger to rule the batsman out.

Considering the delay in the decision and the manner in which he was given out, Muthusamy discussed with captain Faf du Plessis to opt for a review.

While it seemed that Muthusamy would survive with the replays, it didn’t happen as replays confirmed that the ball would have gone on to hit the stumps. The smiles on the faces of the Indian players spoke clearly about them getting surprised by the decision.

Muthusamy, who came in to bat at No. 8 in the 39th over, ended up scoring 7 (20). Having made his debut in the Visakhapatnam Test, Muthusamy had contributed with the bat in both the innings of his first Test.
