Daley Blind: Former Manchester United defender diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation. Ajax have released a statement confirming the same.

Ajax central defender Daley Blind has been diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation and will not be involved in training in January. Blind suffered from dizziness during Ajax’s 1-0 defeat in the Champions league to Valencia and missed their last 2 fixtures. Medical examinations have since revealed the extent of his illness.

He has been fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in order to detect any irregular heartbeats. Ajax have released the following statement regarding the Dutch defender:

“Daley Blind has been diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation.

“The central defender has undergone an extensive medical examination in recent days, following the dizziness that briefly bothered him during the Ajax – Valencia match.

“It was then decided to place a subcutaneous ICD with Blind, a device that is applied under the skin.

“As a result of this intervention, which took place yesterday, the 29-year-old international will not start the training camp selection at the beginning of January, but will continue to work on his recovery in Amsterdam.”

Blind thanks fans

As soon as the news broke out, many fans took to social media to wish Blind a successful recovery. The defender responded by dropping a video thanking his fans for their support.
