Frenkie De Jong hints regret at moving to Barcelona instead of Man City
Frenkie De Jong hints regret at moving to Barcelona instead of Man City. The midfielder was approached by the Premier League club but declined.
Frenkie De Jong was the fulcrum of Ajax’s midfield last season and has reprised his role at Catalonia for the Spanish Champions Barcelona. He has transformed into one of the best midfielders in the world with the Bluagrana’s. However, it seems that Frenkie De Jong would have rather played in the Premier League instead.

The young Dutch midfielder was advised by Holland Boss Ronald Koeman to ply his trade with Manchester City in the Premier League. The Pep Guardiola side were more than eager to pay Ajax’s asking price but refused to cave in to the 22-year old’s £275,000-a-week demand.
He then made his move to Barcelona instead. He has become an integral component of Barcelona’s midfield. However, according to the Mirror, he has now admitted that the La Liga isn’t the best football league in the world and that crown belongs to the Premier league instead.

“I used to think that La Liga was the strongest football league in the world. You could see their dominance in European Cup competitions,” he said.
“The Spanish clubs always progressed a long way and often grabbed the main trophies, the Champions League and Europa League.
“But the Premier League has gained power over the last few years.
“When it comes to pure skills, La Liga is better. But because of the sheer intensity, the English competition is at a slightly higher level.”
Matthijs de Ligt was the other Ajax player who left the Dutch Champions in the summer. He could have joined De Jong at Barcelona but chose to move to Juventus instead who were ready to meet his financial demands.
It has now emerged that the duo were actually recommended to Pep by Koeman. However, just as De Jong before him, Manchester City refused to break their wage structure for him as well.
