Robin Uthappa gets major reprieve: Kerala’s senior batsman failed to make the most of a massive reprieve in Hyderabad.

During a league match of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Hyderabad and Kerala in Hyderabad, veteran Kerala batsman Robin Uthappa received a major reprieve after he got bowled off a no-ball against Hyderabad pace Ravi Kiran.

It all happened after the fourth delivery of the 12th over when Uthappa played all round an in-swinging delivery from Kiran only to see himself getting bowled.

However, it was at the same time that the umpire signaled it as a no-ball. The replays further confirmed that the bowler had clearly overstepped on the given occasion.

Uthappa, who was playing at 4* at the time of the incident, couldn’t make the most of the second chance as he ended up scoring 9 (24) with the help of two fours.

The 34-year old player was part of a batting collapse which saw the visiting team scoring 126/7 in 41 overs at Stumps on Day 1 after their captain Sachin Baby won the toss and elected to bat.

Coming in to bat at No. 7 in the 24th over, Salman Nizar top-scored for Kerala with a brisk 37 (43) with the help of five fours and a six. Kiran, who opened the bowling with Mohammed Siraj (13-3-36-2), was the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 12-4-24-3 at the time of writing this article.

It is worth mentioning that the first session was abandoned on Day 1 due to early morning rain in Hyderabad.
