WATCH: Faf du Plessis pushes Jos Buttler in Johannesburg Test; might get penalized
Faf du Plessis pushes Jos Buttler: The South African captain was involved in an altercation with several English players yesterday.
During the fourth day of the fourth Test of the ongoing England’s tour of South Africa in Johannesburg, South Africa captain Faf du Plessis was seen shouldering England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler which might result in him facing a penalty from match-referee Andy Pycroft.
It all happened after the last delivery of the 57th over when England all-rounder Ben Stokes’ bouncer ended up bending the handle of du Plessis’ bat.
The same was followed by du Plessis getting involved in animated exchanges with the likes of veteran England seamer Stuart Broad and batsman Ollie Pope especially after England all-rounder Sam Curran’s throw hit him on his thigh.
It was at this point in time that Buttler seemed to have intervened to keep Broad and du Plessis away from each other. The emotions getting the better of the Proteas’ captain saw him having a barge at Buttler.
“It’s part of my character. I am always involved in a little bit of something somewhere in the game. Trying to show that fight as the leader the team, that you don’t stand back. It’s not like I am looking for it. It just happens. He said something to me and I said something back.
“I don’t think we knew we touched each other. It was just myself and Broady [Stuart Broad] having a go. He [Jos Buttler] was just trying to get between myself and him. There was no malicious thing. He was trying to diffuse the situation. He didn’t do anything wrong there. It was just words from Broady,” du Plessis told reporters after the match.
