Manchester City could face points deduction in Premier League and possible relegation to league two
Manchester City could face possible points deduction in the Premier League and a possible relegation to League Two, following a Champions League ban.
Last night, UEFA declare that they have imposed a two-year ban on Manchester City from participating in the Champions League after the European governing body found malpractices with financial regularities.
Further, they have been handed a €30 million fine. In new updates by the Independent, league committees have already been in discussions about the current champions’ punishment and a points deduction is ‘highly likely.’
Manchester City are found guilty of ‘overstating its sponsorship revenue in accounts’ and aren’t out of the woods with their ban as the Premier League will also be forced to act.
If Manchester City remains guilty of the conduct then a considerable form of punishment is expected by the league authorities, even though, Premier League have more flexible FFP regulations, they would likely still be in breach.
Presently, the points deduction seems likely but a possible relegation to League Two is just only a slight possibility. Thus, saving the Citizens from the worst currently.
The Football League recently changed its rules to mean any club in similar breach would have to start in League Two but the Premier League doesn’t have that rule in place.
Manchester City has already lined up a high-profile appeal in Court of Arbitration for Sport, against the judgement made by the UEFA. The English champions are burdened with reducing their ban, as it poses the threat of losing their star players.

Moreover, it also brings doubts upon Pep Guardiola’s future with Manchester City, risking their years of hard work in rebuilding a squad to become a European powerhouse.
