Ahmedabad to host day-night Test between India and England in 2021
Ahmedabad to host day-night Test: The stadium which is under renovation will host India’s third day-night Test match.
The reports of India playing a day-night Test match during their tour of Australia later this year have been confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The decision was taken by the BCCI’s Apex Council, which met in Delhi today in the presence of BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah.
While Australia had expressed intentions of playing two day-night Test matches against India, it seems unlikely as the visitors have decided to play only one day-night match.
“Two out of four would be a bit too much with the pink ball,” Ganguly was quoted as saying during the Apex Council. If reports in ESPNcricinfo are to be believed, the most likely venue for the match will be one out of Adelaide or Brisbane.
Ahmedabad to host day-night Test
In another significant development, Ahmedabad will host a day-night Test match between India and England during England’s tour of India in January-February 2021. Currently under renovation and expected to be the world’s biggest stadium, the stadium hosting only the second day-night Test match in India sounds like an intriguing prospect.
While Ganguly had hinted an Asia XI vs World XI encounter in the past to inaugurate the refurbished stadium in Ahmedabad, no confirmation on the same has been provided.
As far as the five-match Test series against England is concerned, venues for the same are also expected to be discussed. It is worth mentioning that that series will be India’s last in the ongoing ICC Test Championship.
Currently in New Zealand preparing for a two-match Test series, the Test series in Australia is the only other Test series which India are scheduled to play in 2020 unless something unplanned gets added to the FTP.
