Snehal Kauthankar furious with Nandan: The Goan batsman was clearly unhappy with the umpire after being wrongly given out.
During the fourth day of the first quarter-final of the ongoing 86th season of the Ranji Trophy between Gujarat and Goa in Valsad, Goa batsman Snehal Kauthankar didn’t shy away from expressing his disappointment over umpire Nandan wrongly giving his out.
It all happened on the third delivery of the 41st over when Gujarat spinner Siddarth Desai beat Kauthankar all ends up. The left-arm spinner bowling over the wicket to the right-hand batsman saw him pitching the ball on the rough and getting plentiful turn which deceived the batsman.
It was at this point in time that Gujarat captain and wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel sounded almost desperate in his appeal against the batsman.
The elongated appeal saw Patel even turning towards square leg umpire C. Ravikanthreddy in desperation. Nandan, who didn’t seem like ruling the batsman out early on, eventually raised his finger after briefly looking towards Ravikanthreddy.
After being given out, Kauthankar immediately appeared shocked for replays confirmed that he hadn’t edged the ball and the sound had come from the ball clipping his thigh pad while on the way to Patel’s gloves.
What became questionable was Nandan seeking aid from the square leg umpire when the ball had beaten the batsman on the outside edge.
Coming in to bat at No. 5 in the 12th over, Kauthankar ended up scoring 17 (77) with the help of two fours in an improbable 629-run chase. Having dismissed seven Goan batsmen for less than 150, Gujarat look set to enter the semi-final of the tournament.
