Premier League fixtures shall be cancelled with the absence of spectators claims Pep Guardiola amidst coronavirus widespread.
The Coronavirus spread has threatened several leagues in Europe and has compelled the officials to force teams to play behind closed doors in Spain and France.
Meanwhile, Italy has suspended its all sporting activities till April 2, giving rise to the tensions behind the widespread of COVID-19.
Amidst all of this, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed that the matches irrespective of the level of tournament calls for cancellation if they are being played without the presence of spectators.
“We are conscious of it because it has happened already in Italy,” Guardiola said. “The league is suspended, in Spain the next two weeks are behind closed doors.”
“It is going to happen here. The tendency rises at the same level as Italy before and in Spain right now. The other issue you have to ask is it worse to play football without the spectators.”
“We do our job for the people and if the people cannot come to watch us, there is no sense. I would not love to play matches in the Premier League or Champions League or the cups without the people.”
“But we are going to follow the instructions of the governments. Everybody around the world is involved in that and we just follow what we have to do and follow the instructions.”
So far, English authorities have allowed allowed fixtures to continue as normal and Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday is set to go ahead with spectators.
The mid-week fixture will see Pep Guardiola facing his former deputy Mikel Arteta as the Arsenal manager for the first time.
Manchester City’s star is still doubtful ahead of the clash, the Belgian International missed the game against Manchester United in the last game-week clash.
