Gautam Gambhir news: ESPNcricinfo’s Sambit Bal responds to Gambhir’s tweet over MS Dhoni World Cup-winning six
Sambit Bal responds to Gambhir’s tweet: The illustrious website’s Editor-in-chief responded to the former India opening batsman.
Former India batsman and current Member of Parliament from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir took to his Twitter handle in the morning to express disappointment at illustrious website ESPNcricinfo’s post regarding former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s six which won India the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Gambhir, who played an equally important role in the final match, received mixed responses from the Indian fans. While some fans supported Gambhir’s opinion of the victory belonging to the whole nation, the others criticized him for distasteful nature.
Sambit Bal, ESPNcricinfo’s Editor-in-chief, himself took to the Twitter to explain it to Gambhir as to why they posted Dhoni’s image and acknowledge that the southpaw was the “real” man of the match.
“Without doubt Gautam, you were the real man of the match, and we certainly know that a cricket match is rarely won by one man. It’s just that some images become iconic, just like Kapil Dev holding the trophy in 1983. That’s how sporting memory works,” read Bal’s tweet.
The likes of Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, all of whom were part of the World Cup victory, took to Twitter and celebrated the ninth anniversary of the historic achievement.
With no live cricket match being played in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, Star Sports Network is telecasting the repeat of the 2011 World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka in a bid to make people relive the joyous moment.
