Australia offers to host rest of the Premier League season
Australia offers to host rest of the Premier League season. The English top flight clubs are said to be interested in the move.
The Premier League has come to a halt amidst the coronavirus pandemic. While the clubs are keen to restart the season, it is looking very difficult to make a comeback amidst the nationwide lockdown. However, a new window of opportunity has opened its doors to ‘Project Restart.’

Representatives from all 20 clubs have been working together towards the resurrection of the campaign and one of the main outcomes of the meeting have been the agreement towards playing at neutral venues for the remaining 92 fixtures to help avoid the risks of the pandemic.

Unlike the UK, Australia has begun lifting its lockdown restrictions. While the UK have had 184,000 cases and 28,000 deaths, the land Down Under has had fewer than 7,000 and 100 respectively. In fact, Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach has even been reopened to swimmers and surfers last week after a five-week shutdown.
Australian City Perth has now offered its facilities to the Premier League and Agent Gary Williams, who was born in Birmingham, says that clubs are open to the idea.
“I have had discussions with contacts at Premier League clubs and they like the idea,” agent Gary Williams, who was born in Birmingham, was quoted by The Sun.
“I have also spoken with government officials and they are enthusiastic. We are speaking again this week. Everybody is safe here. The government has lifted many restrictions.
“We are sitting round in groups of ten, we can walk around and the beaches are open. We have had four new cases in the last ten days.”
Perth state senator Glenn Sterle added: “I’m watching what’s happening in England with a heavy heart. We want to help.
“We have almost no new cases. It would just be a case of some quarantine for our friends when they arrive and then we are up and running.
“When Gary first mentioned it, I thought it was a wonderful idea. I’m glad he is getting the same response from the people in the game he has called.
“This is the centre of the sporting universe in Australia. We have fresh air and good weather. It would be ideal.”
