Sebastian Vettel’s replacement Carlos Sainz clarifies his stance on alleged number 2 role in Ferrari
Sebastian Vettel’s replacement Carlos Sainz talks on his alleged number 2 role in Ferarri, as the outfit sees Charles Leclerc its priority.
Carlos Sainz was signed as the replacement of Sebastian Vettel soon after the latter announced his departure from Ferrari, but soon after he was signed many talked whether Ferarri will openly talk about its priority driver on the track.
Many presumed that Charles Leclerc will be handed that tag since he is one of the highest-rated talents in Formula 1 along with Max Verstappen, Sainz despite being a great driver, might have to play a role of deputy.
Upon being asked about this alleged role of his at Ferrari Sainz clarified his contract status once and for all, Speaking to Radio Marca, Sainz said:
“No, I have not signed anything that puts second pilot. In my contract, it says, as in all those I have signed, that the team is above the pilot, but does not put anything second or support from anyone. What I know is that I will give everything for Ferrari and I will give everything they need, above all, to try to win.
“I do not care about the colour of the car. I treat all drivers equally, we are all rivals and we must go for all. If there is a complicated situation, I would make the right decision, don’t worry. “
Sainz has an experience of 5 years with around 100 race starts just at the age of 25, he is perfect mixture of experience and youth, which McLaren desperately desired last season.

Thus, Leclerc will not have an easy scuffle with Sainz during races and Ferrari might let them compete if Sainz keeps delivering. But at the same time Ferrari does need to clear off the ambiguity, last season the same reason was one of the reasons behind Ferrari’s blunders.
