Ian Bell commits to one-year extension at Warwickshire: The veteran English batsman will continue to play for Warwickshire in 2021.

Veteran England and Warwickshire batsman Ian Bell will continue to represent Warwickshire in next year’s English domestic season on the back of extending his contract by a year.

Bell, 38, had made his first-class debut for Warwickshire in 1999 and has since been playing for the club across formats. Having missed last year’s domestic season due to a knee injury, the English stalwart would be looking forward to this year’s truncated season which is set to resume from August 1.

Having won six domestic trophies at Warwickshire, Bell considered himself fortunate to represent the club in all formats. “It means a huge amount to me, and my family, that I am able to continue representing my home county.

“I’ve been fortunate to be part of some fantastic Warwickshire sides that have won trophies across formats throughout my time with the Club, and I firmly believe that we are building for another period of challenging for more titles,” Bell said in a statement.

Bell, who had top-scored for Warwickshire in 2018 with 1,027 runs in 14 first-class matches at an average of 54.05 including five centuries and two half-centuries, further spoke about his role at the club especially with respect to young players seeking support from a veteran like him.

“In the last couple of years we’ve seen some really promising young players come into the side and make an immediate impression. Part of my role now is to provide support to them as they have the potential to achieve a huge amount both with Warwickshire and England.

“I believe that it’s a very exciting time for the Club and I can’t wait to get back out there wearing the Bear & Ragged Staff,” Bell added.

Apart from the first-class format, Bell had also top-scored for Birmingham Bears in 2018’s Vitality Blast with 580 runs in 14 T20s at an average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 139.08 including one century and four half-centuries.
