Ravichandran Ashwin’s Grandfather passes away

Ravichandran Ashwin received the news of the sad demise of his grandfather S Narayanaswamy yesterday, as he passed away at the age of 92, due to old age and health related issues. Ashwin is currently with the Indian team in England for the upcoming Champions Trophy, and will be staying put despite his loss.

Ashwin’s grandfather passed away on Saturday, 27th May, and the last rites were performed on 28th May, when Ashwin was featuring for India in the warm up game against New Zealand.

S Narayanasamy was a former employee of the Southern Railways. He reportedly had a huge role to play in shaping up Ashwin to become the stalwart cricketer that he is today. Ashwin’s father gave testimony to this fact and also hopes that Ashwin can excel at the international level for the sake of his late grandfather.

Ashwin is currently making a comeback into the Indian team, after sitting out of the entire IPL, citing injury and fatigue. He hasn’t been playing cricket for the past 2 and a half months, and seems to be rejuvenated and focussed to help India defend that Champions Trophy title.

In a recent interview, Ashwin revealed that he has learnt a few tricks during the off period and would be hoping to try them out during the warm up games and ultimately during the main event.

Ashwin did have a frutiful comeback to the national setup in the first warm up game against the Kiwis, picking up 1 wicket and giving away just 32 in his 6 overs. He also displayed some of his new tricks, as he went onto bowl a host of leg spinners.

Hopefully he deals well with this tragedy and comes out on top, for the sake of his grandfather and the country.
