Virat Kohli has apparently asked the BCCI to pick Ravi Shastri as the India Head Coach

The Indian Head Coach saga has extended more than people would have thought it would. On the outside Kumble’s influence on the Indian team seemed to be perfect, the relationship between the players and the coach seemed to be impeccable, Kohli and Kumble seemed to have been getting along as old friends, but according to several reports, all that was a farce.

Tensions between players and coach, captain and coach and coach and BCCI have been brimming to the fore, causing the BCCI to chose a very unfavourable time to release its ‘advertisement’ regarding the coach for the next term.

Virat Kohli and his players are apparently not too happy with the way Kumble conducts himself in the dressing room and also have trust issues with him, as Kumble had reportedly leaked out some critical team information to the media.

The CAC, comprising of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar will be responsible for selecting the next India head coach, and according to reports, Virat Kohli has asked the CAC and BCCI to go ahead with Ravi Shastri, despite him not applying for the post.

Tom Moody, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, Lalchand Rajpoot, Richard Pybus and Craig McDermott have applied for the position and it is very likely that all of them will be interviewed by the CAC.

Before leaving for London, Kohli had met VVS and Sachin and had asked them to invite Ravi Shastri for an interview for the post of the Head Coach. Shastri had a very fruitful time with the Indian team, acting as a Team Director but hasn’t quite expressed any intention of being the coach of the National Team. Virat Kohli shares a very good rapport with him, but with no intent from Shastri’s side, it looks highly unlikely that Shastri could land the big job.

India play Sri Lanka in their second game today at 3 pm.
