Lewis Hamilton contract: Mercedes driver to sign new £180 million F1 contract, reports claims
Lewis Hamilton contract: The Brit is expected to sign a new contract with his German employers Mercedes, as he vies to become the greatest-ever F1 champion in history.
Lewis Hamilton is the best driver among the current grid of F1 drivers, hands down. And he has the best car available to him, with the dominant Mercedes outfit. Therefore, it is no wonder he is being tipped to win his seventh world title this season. If he wins it, he will equal Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world titles.
Lewis Hamilton contract: Mercedes driver demanding a pay raise
There were suggestions that Mercedes might not agree to his incremental wage demands. Hamilton is reportedly on £36 million/year., but is demanding in excess of £40 million/year.
But since then, both Hamilton and Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff have suggested that all is well with the discussions. Along with Hamilton, Mercedes are also expected to thrash out a deal with his teammate Valtteri Bottas.
Now, reports from Fox Sports suggest that Lewis is demanding a £180 million 3-year contract from Mercedes, one that will bump him up from £36 million/year to £60 million/year.
That is a massive pay rise, especially considering all the financial concerns circling around the globe. However, Mercedes know Hamilton is the best and if he can lead them to a few more titles, it will all be worth it.
Hamilton spoke about his desire to continue for a few more seasons, as he strives to break every record possible in F1, mostly held by Michael Schumacher. The Covid-19 break has given him “a renewed bit of energy” to race in the sport for much longer.
“I would say the Covid-19 lockdown, when we had the first part of the season cancelled, in some ways gave a lot of life, a lot of energy to focus on some other things. That time off was really a bit of breathing space. It gave me a renewed bit of energy to perhaps go longer.”

“There is a point at which physicality and the mental side tail off, and I don’t know when that’s going to be. But I don’t see that happening in the short term, in the next two or three years.”
“I do see myself going for at least another three years.”
The massive new contract would give a huge impetus to the already inflated net worth of the 6 time world Champion. The F1 legend currently has a reported net worth of £227 million and that could take a leap, if he pens down this new contract with Mercedes.
