“Helmut is like a father to me" - Max Verstappen chooses better racing driver between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko

“Helmut is like a father to me” – Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen has his say on who he believes is a better driver between bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko.

Dr. Helmut Marko is as straightforward as it gets in his role as Red Bull Racing advisor. He is renowned for not mincing his words, something that has clearly passed on to Max Verstappen, who considers him a fatherly figure, no less.

“Helmut is like a father to me, yes. I have a very good relationship with both of them. And with Helmut, he says what he thinks and is always straightforward and I like that. With him, no bull**** stories.

“That rapport with Marko is just very good and the one with Christian too. We’ve been through so much over the years, of course, that it’s all good. We get on well together.”

Who is the better driver between Horner and Marko?

Both Red Bull bosses Christian Horner and Helmut Marko have racing experience. While Horner made it into Formula 3000, Marko made 10 starts in Formula 1. He also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1971 alongside Gijs van Lennep.

Verstappen was asked for his judgment, who went for his ‘fatherly figure’. To be fair to Horner, he left competitive racing to join its management after the energy drinks company bought the team from Jaguar in 2005. The team has since gone on to win four world titles, from 2010 to 2013.

“Helmut, of course, made it to Formula 1. So yes, it’s hard to say, but in the end, I think it’s Helmut, but maybe it’s better to ask them together.”
