Fernando Alonso: Former F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari feels Alonso could win with Renault next season
Fernando Alonso: Renault are bringing back the Spanish two-time world champion, and is expected to win, according to Jaime Alguesuari.
Former Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguesuari expects Fernando Alonso to be competing for the world championship when he returns with Renault next season.
The Spaniard is a two-time champion with Renault, and is looking to make an impact in his reunion. Alonso will be replacing Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who will be making the move to McLaren. Alonso, incidentally, last raced in Formula 1 with McLaren, with his experience not as good as with Renault. Alguesuari had this to say on the Spaniard’s motivation win in F1 again.
“As always, it will depend on the car that he has. Fernando is a great driver and he has demonstrated that always, but I imagine everyone’s expectation is Alonso winning another world title.”
“If you already have won two, everybody expects you to go and win a third one, but everything will depend on the car that he has and his capabilities to deal with F1 again.”
Alonso a versatile motor sports champion
Alonso has also won Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship during his sabbatical from F1. He is currently competing at the Indy 500. He survived a crash there last weekend, but was declared fit to continue.
For Cyril Abiteboul, next week’s Indy 500 can’t come and go fast enough, with the Renault F1 boss anxious to see Fernando Alonso leave the Brickyard safe and sound. https://t.co/NUJYPz7FDc

Alguesuari is not surprised with this at all, highlighting Alonso’s winning instincts. “Fernando is driven by his racing motivation. I understand him.”
“At the end of the day it’s a matter of priorities and that was on his to-do list. To compete in other motorsport series is something that you respect because he is a motorsport fan, he has it in his blood.”
“I really understand his wish trying in other motorsport series’.”
