“I see no reason why he shouldn’t”- Lando Norris backs knighthood for Lewis Hamilton
“I see no reason why he shouldn’t”- Lando Norris backs knighthood debate for Lewis Hamilton while citing his compatriot’s achievements.
Lando Norris, another Briton in Formula 1 has backed the argument of knighthood being granted to Lewis Hamilton, as his achievements mark him one of the greatest athletes Britain has ever produced.
During the press conference, Norris was asked about whether he believes that Hamilton shall be granted knighthood by the queen, to which Norris said there shouldn’t be any doubt about it.
Norris on Hamilton knighthood: “Only one person in the whole world has achieved what he has done, and that is Michael Schumacher. He has led both on and off the track and other athletes who have done such things in sport have been honoured so I see no reason why he shouldn’t.”

“Only one person in the whole world has achieved what he has done, and that is Michael Schumacher. He has led both on and off the track and other athletes who have done such things in sport have been honoured so I see no reason why he shouldn’t.”
In the next race, Hamilton will most probably also equal the tally of the most championship won in Formula 1, which was so far only held by Schumacher.
Why Hamilton truly deserves it
Apart from glorious achievement, knighthood is also granted by the deed, and Hamilton as the only racer of colour has constantly been the voice of marginalized through the pedestal he has earned.
He has been the flag-bearer of anti-racism in Formula 1 and also led the protests by F1 drivers during the BLM movement. Meanwhile, his voice towards environmental concerns has also garnered him praise.
Moreover, his philanthropic work is also well under the public eye. There are multiple reasons to give Hamilton the most prestigious honour and apart from Norris, there are multiple former drivers who believe in this thought process.
Though, it is fair to say that Hamilton is arguably and statistically Britain’s greatest athlete of all time and crown should feel an obligation to credit him for his achievements with this honourable acknowledgement.
