MLS News : Portland’s Dairon Asprilla Served One Match Ban In Lieu Of Violent Conduct
Dairon Asprilla Served One Match Ban : MLS come down heavily on Portland’s Dairon Asprilla with the player being banned for one match by the league
The MLS disciplinary committee has come down hard on Portland Timbers’ striker Dairon Asprilla. Clearly miffed at his shenanigans in the Portland’s showdown against Los Angeles, the club’s body has decided to ban the player and further fine him an undisclosed amount for his unsavoury conduct.
Asprilla Set To Miss Tie Against Dallas
The latest development comes as a massive setback to Portland Timbers with the striker set to miss out on the club’s impending quarter-finals fixture in MLS 2020-21 against Dallas. Asprilla was deemed guilty of violating the guidelines inducted in place to protect players after he stretched to reach a ball directed his way.
Struggling to catch up, Asprilla flung his foot at the ball in a last ditch effort to bring it under his command, subsequently falling to do so to see him kick Los Angeles’ goal-keeper, Kenneth Vermeer in the face.
The play was reviewed under Disciplinary Committee Parameter number 3, in which the Disciplinary Committee may act where the Professional Referees Organization (PRO) acknowledges an on-field referee or Video Review error, and where the Committee is unanimous that the play warrants at least a one match suspension as a clear and unequivocal red card, is egregious and/or repeat behaviour in nature, and/or the Committee must act to protect player safety or the integrity of the game.
Franco Escobar Banned For One Match
Asprilla wasn’t the only player to face the wrath of the MLS committee though with Atlanta United’s defender, Franco Escobar being dished s string of penalties. His behaviour with the stretcher crew was deemed as malicious, actions which have resulted in him being dished out a one match ban and an undisclosed fine.
Unfortunately for Franco, the punishment doesn’t curtail there though with his failure to leave the pitch on time after receiving a red card in the 90th minute drawing a second fine.
He has also been deemed guilty for violating rules by re-entering the pitch after his departure to engage in a brawl with a Colombo’s Crew member which sees him being fined an undisclosed time for the third time.
