‘Pau Gasol would love to play for the Lakers’: Marc Gasol reveals brother’s wish to play alongside LeBron James

Marc Gasol says his brother Pau Gasol would be open to joining the Los Angeles Lakers for this upcoming 2020-21 NBA season.

The talk of the NBA this offseason has been centered around the drastic changes the Los Angeles Lakers made to their roster. Though they are fresh off a championship, Rob Pelinka was not satisfied.

So in an effort to bolster their roster, Pelinka acquired 2019 NBA champion Marc Gasol, along with other decent pieces. Marc Gasol will be a key player for the Lakers going into next season, as he will be anchoring their defense alongside Anthony Davis.

However, upon Marc Gasol signing with the Lakers, everyone had one question in mind: Would his older brother Pau, join him too?

Pau Gasol reportedly would like to play for the Lakers this upcoming season.

The last time Pau Gasol stepped foot in an NBA game was way back in March of 2019, for the Portland TrailBlazers. He stepped away from basketball as he had a fracture in his left foot. The Blazers would later waive Pau.

This is of course not the ending Pau Gasol deserves for his Hall of Fame caliber career. So when a tweet was posted about how Pau should sign with the Lakers so he could retire with them, Pau gave it his seal of approval.

His younger brother Marc talked about Pau’s potential return to La La Land and said, “I know Pau loves LA and the Lakers. He feels like it’s home and would love to come back.”

The Gasol brothers’ history with the Lakers.

Pau and Marc were techinically traded for one another back in 2008 when the Lakers reached out to Memphis to acquire Pau. The Lakers sent a hefty package back, which included the rights to rookie Marc Gasol.

Pau of course, would go on to make 3 consecutive Finals with the Lakers. He won 2 chips in the process, back-to-back, alongside Kobe Bryant.

If Pau were to return, it would be the first time in Lakers history that 2 brothers played for the organization at the same time.
