BBL 2020-21: Melbourne Stars’ Nick Larkin attempts to sneak single with ball hidden in sweater vs Sydney Thunder
Nick Larkin attempts to sneak single: The batsman from Melbourne Stars registered a hilarious sight in the last over of the first innings.
During the third match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder in Canberra, Melbourne Stars batsman Nick Larkin put on display a hilarious sight which left everyone in splits.
Wanting to slog the first delivery of the last over being bowled by Sydney Thunder pacer Daniel Sams, Larkin failed to make contact with the ball but aimed at sneaking a leg bye.
While Larkin and non-striker Liam Hatcher (2*) completed the run, the fielders were confused after failing to spot the ball. Just as Larkin completed the single, the ball fell from inside his sweater. While the same was unintentional on the batsman’s part, the ball was termed as a “dead ball” given the manner in which the batsmen completed the leg bye.
Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 15th over, Larkin (15) couldn’t provide the finish which Stars required from their late middle-order batsmen despite the presence of a “Power Surge“.
After Melbourne captain Glenn Maxwell won the toss and chose to bat, his team scored a below par 169/8 in 20 overs. While all-rounder Marcus Stoinis top-scored with his 61 (37) after opening the batting, Maxwell himself played well to score 39 (29).
As for the Thunder bowlers, Sams and the spinner-duo of Tanveer Sangha and Chris Green picked up a couple of wickets each. On the other hand, the likes of Jonathan Cook and Nathan McAndrew picked a wicket apiece.
