Shaw on his dismissal

Shaw on his dismissal: In an interview after the day got over, rookie Prithvi Shaw accepted his mistake of playing a poor shot to get out.

During the second day of the second Test of the ongoing West Indies’ tour of India at Hyderabad, teenage Indian opener Prithvi Shaw scored his second consecutive 50+ score in Test cricket.

With his senior opening partner in Lokesh Rahul facing a difficult time in the middle, Shaw played his natural game. Without wasting much time in settling in, Shaw looked to play his shots from the word go. Despite Rahul getting out cheaply, not for once did Shaw look to compromise on the strike rate.

That being said, there is no hiding to the fact that Shaw ended up giving his wicket to the opposition than them dismissing him. On the fourth delivery of the 19th over, Shaw played a loose drive away from his body straight to Shimron Hetmyer at extra cover. Shaw ended up scoring 70 (53) with the help of 11 fours and a six.

During an interview after the day got over, Shaw agreed on his mistake and regretted not making a big score like the first Test. He also laid emphasis on not repeating the same mistake in the future.

“I was just trying to play my natural game, but unfortunately couldn’t make it big, couldn’t place the drive. I just wanted to play my natural game and play on merit. I don’t want to think too much, don’t want to get confused and get blank in my mind.

“Gabriel and Holder were bowling with good pace, I wasn’t trying to hit too hard, just looking for gaps, the ball wasn’t swinging a lot, I was trying to place the balls in vacant areas. I was trying to hit it to the left of the fielder, but I didn’t get close to the ball, was trying to play on the up (on his dismissal).

“I will not look to repeat this mistake once again. I can’t brood about this dismissal, I will start from zero once again, it was a silly shot which I will try to avoid in the next innings, will not try to do differently in the next innings,” Shaw was quoted.

It is appalling to see a neophyte member of the Indian team showing such responsibility in his words. His words speak very highly of his temperament.

On the back of a game-changing unbeaten 149-run partnership between vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant, India ended the second day on 308-4 in 81 overs. Only three runs behind West Indies now, India will look to build a substantial lead tomorrow.

Shaw’s swift innings saw him accumulate numerous Twitter reactions. Some of them are listed below:
