Lewis Gregory: Heat all-rounder’s attempted slower ball lands off the pitch; Tim David hits six on free-hit next ball
Lewis Gregory: The English all-rounder proved way too expensive in the three overs that he bowled at the Gabba tonight.
During the 20th match of the ongoing 10th season of the Big Bash League between Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat in Brisbane, Brisbane Heat all-rounder Lewis Gregory’s attempted slower delivery ended up being on the funnier side as he landed the ball off the pitch.
It all happened on what would have been the last delivery of the 17th over when Gregory aimed to bowl a back-of-the-hand slower delivery. In addition to the delivery, Gregory also fell down to invite laughter from the commentators.
With the umpire declaring it as a no-ball for the ball pitched outside the pitch, batsman Tim David added to Gregory’s woes by hitting a six down the ground off the free-hit that followed. Having hit a six off the penultimate delivery of the over, David played a vital role in accumulating 20 runs from the over.
Having scored 36 (17) with the help of two fours and three sixes, David’s cameo powered Hurricanes to 150 in 19.4 overs after Heat captain Jimmy Peirson asked them to bat first. Apart from David, batsman Dawid Malan chipped in with 39 (32) with the help of four fours and a six to top score for his team.
With bowling figures of 4-0-15-5, Heat spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of their bowlers to the extent that he registered the best bowling figures for a Heat player. While Heat pacer Xavier Bartlett picked bowling figures of 3-0-22-2, the likes of Mark Steketee and Jack Wildermuth picked a wicket apiece.
