“I don’t think Lewis has had any real rivalry since Rosberg”- Martin Brundle spots Max Verstappen not an immediate challenge to Lewis Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton has conquered Formula 1 by continuously winning the World Championships in six years out of the last seven years, and Martin Brundle doesn’t think that anything is going to change anytime soon.
He opines that Hamilton hadn’t had a real challenge in the sport since his former teammate Nico Rosberg challenged him on track and even snatched a world championship in 2016.
“I don’t think Lewis has had any real rivalry since Rosberg,” explains Brundle at Sky Sports. However, Rosberg, after securing the title, took early retirement and cleared that path for Hamilton.
Meanwhile, there were expectations from Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari, but they never managed to maximize their strengths together. But now, fans view a contention from Max Verstappen, who has been delivering consistently for a while now, but Brundle still doesn’t see him a challenge to hamilton at least for now.
“He never really had the right material. No one could really put pressure on Lewis since 2016,” he added.
Lewis Hamilton is always dominant.
Apart from driving the greatest car on the track every year, there is another thing that separates Hamilton from the rest, and that is how consistent and dominant he is while performing.
“That is what has been noticed, how few mistakes he has made. How complete and safe he drives. I think that is enormously important. His working speed is also great, and that’s what you hear in the paddock.”
“When you have won all that success, money, and so many prizes, it’s hard to maintain motivation. He does that incredibly well,” Brundle concludes.
Hamilton is yet to extend his commitment with Mercedes now, but still many expect him to continue with the team and lift his 8th title in 2021.
