“All of a sudden, you have bubbles within bubbles” – George Russell speaks out on the hardships during Covid-19 outbreak
“All of a sudden, you have bubbles within bubbles” – George Russell had a fine 2020 season despite the hassle suffered due to Covid-19, as he looks ahead to potentially replacing Sir Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes.
George Russell, of Williams and Mercedes, had quite an eventful 2020 season. He was ‘Mr. Saturday’ for Williams, qualifying for Q2 nine times for the team. Apart from that, he had his dream-come-true moment when he replaced Lewis Hamilton at Bahrain.

Hamilton and the Force India duo of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll got affected by Covid-19, ensuring stricter bubbles and quarantine rules for drivers and teams. Speaking to GPFans, Russell spoke about the challenges of living in a bubble.
“It was incredibly difficult, not seeing friends, family. Being locked away in my flat. It was a sacrifice I was willing to take because ultimately, Formula 1 is my life and it is the most important thing to me.”
“There are a lot of worse positions to be in but we are all human at the end of the day, we need this interaction and not having it is difficult and that’s why everybody was looking forward to going back to families and living a normal life. Formula 1, we already live in a bubble. Everyone used to say before Covid that Formula 1 is a big bubble, it is our real life.”
“All of a sudden, you have bubbles within bubbles and you can’t exit the bubble so it is tricky.”
