“He’s taken the whole team into a different level”- Sergio Perez credits Lawrence Stroll for Racing Point resurgence after Force India crisis
“He’s taken the whole team into a different level”- Sergio Perez on Lawrence Stroll guiding his former team to stability after Force India crisis.
As the former owner and Indian business tycoon Vijay Mallya was battling an extradition case against the Indian government, force India went into administration.
Lawrence Stroll acquired the team and fuelled in the crucial capital required to keep them afloat in the competition, and Sergio Perez has credited all the success after that to Stroll.
“A lot of credit to the team because they gave me a car this year that I can show what I’m capable of, so that’s something extraordinary,” Perez said to Formula 1.com at the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
“And also big credit to Lawrence, because when he came to the team, thanks to him, in a way, this victory came through, because he’s taken the whole team into a different level, with the level of investment he’s done, and I’ve been able to take advantage of that with that win.”
Perfect time for the victory at Bahrain
Before Red Bull picked up Perez from the free agent bank, the Mexican race driver was living in uncertainty about his future in the sport. But a thumping win at the Sakhir Grand Prix changed his fortunes, as it was a crucial moment to make Red Bull approach him.
“It’s something extremely nice for us. Such history and such a nice end. Normally the ends are not very happy [endings]. Still, I think this one is going to be because leaving that way the team that I’ve been [with] for seven years is definitely special, and it was a special day, and a day we will never forget, so I’m pleased that I’m leaving the team on this high.” he concluded.
Now, the team has rebranded itself and named as Aston Martin, with Sebastian Vettel replacing Perez in the team.
