Fawad Alam century: Pakistani batsman hits six to bring up 3rd Test century vs South Africa in Karachi Test
Fawad Alam century: The Pakistani batsman’s game-changing innings saw him registering his maiden Test century in his debut Test at home.
During the second day of the first Test of the ongoing South Africa’s tour of Pakistan in Karachi, Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam hit a confident six down the ground to bring up his third Test century.
It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the 90th over when Alam took on the attack against South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj stepping out to hit the left-arm bowler over long-on for a six.
Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 17th over with Pakistan reeling at 27/4, Alam’s valiant effort has played a substantial role in the hosts gaining a first-innings lead at the National Stadium.
Given Alam’s career trajectory, the story of him playing his debut Test at home almost 12 years after playing his first Test is doubtlessly inspirational. Having scored more than 30 first-class centuries in Pakistan, the 35-year old player scoring his first home Test century after all these years speaks highly about him.
In addition to Alam playing a rescue act for the hosts, the aforementioned was another reason why he received an elongated standing ovation from his teammates while performing sajda as part of his century celebrations.
It was eventually in the 98th over when Alam flicked a Lungi Ngidi delivery to Temba Bavuma straight to mid-wicket to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 109 (245) with the help of nine fours and two sixes.

What a gratifying story. Every time I see Fawad Alam score runs, my heart rejoices. 10 years denied him will never be returned, but all we can do is celebrate these apogee moments with him. Well played; #Fawadever👏👏👏.
