Toto Wolff reveals Hamilton will “soon” sign, but not a 3-year-deal
Toto Wolff reveals that Lewis Hamilton is set to sign a new deal, but not a lengthy deal and the official announcement will be soon made.
It seems like the lengthy negotiations between Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton for a mutually favourable contract are coming to an end, with the new revelation made by Toto Wolff.
According to an RTL interview, Toto Wolff has claimed that the reigning World Champion would soon be signing a new deal with the Brackley based team.
However, he also indicated that the association is only limited to a short period now, as it won’t be a three-year or more long deal for the Briton race driver.
Therefore, the announcement regarding extending his association with Mercedes will soon be announced by them. The reason behind such a short term contract extension is the budget caps imposed, and that is why Wolff has claimed that they have to keep their eyes open.
Even in 2019, Hamilton signed a year-long extension for Mercedes, but this seems to be the final chapter of this historic allegiance. But, In the end, there must be a “sensible agreement, and we are not far from it”. Wolff explained.
Lewis Hamilton to chase for 8th; Toto Wolff ready for future.
The new contract extension will give Hamilton another year to dominate F1 with the incredible machinery at Mercedes’ disposal, allowing him to record the most drivers’ championships in his name.
In 2020 he equalized Michael Schumacher’s records, and this year, he can set his own history, which will take at least half-decade more for a decorated driver like Sebastian Vettel to beat.
If Hamilton decides to retire or leave Mercedes in 2022, the Champions of the world will lose a key figure in their setup, but they have made sure that they are ready for such a day and found a suitable replacement in George Russel.
